The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U consoles. It was released on March 3, 2017, and is the nineteenth main installment in the Legend of Zelda series.

The game takes place in a large, open world filled with various enemies, puzzles, and quests. The player controls Link, a young man who wakes up from a hundred-year slumber to find that the world has been taken over by an evil force known as Calamity Ganon. Link must travel across the land of Hyrule, fighting enemies, solving puzzles, and gaining new abilities in order to defeat Ganon and save the kingdom.

Breath of the Wild features a wide range of weapons and tools that the player can use, including swords, bows, shields, and magical runes that allow Link to manipulate the environment. The game also features a complex weather system that affects gameplay, with rain and lightning making climbing difficult and fire causing grass to burn.

One of the game's unique features is its nonlinear gameplay, which allows the player to approach the game's objectives in any order they choose. The game also features a day and night cycle, with the enemies and wildlife changing depending on the time of day.

Breath of the Wild was critically acclaimed for its open-world design, gameplay mechanics, and attention to detail. It won numerous awards, including the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2017, and has sold over 23 million copies worldwide as of September 2021.
